Ruth Novaczek was born in London and studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, Film and Video at St Martins School of Art and post graduate Fine Art at Central St Martins School of Art. She has a PhD from the University of Westminster where she is a Visiting Research Fellow. She has worked primarily in performance, film and video since 1982.
Novaczek has worked as a DJ, curator and cinema programmer, and has lectured at universities and art schools including Barnard College, New York, Dartington College of Art, Anglia Ruskin University, and the University of Westminster. She was artist in residence at Dartington Arts from 2001-2003.She is currently an advisor at the Transart Institute.
Her films and installations have been shown nationally and internationally at venues that include the Tate Gallery, The Kitchen in New York, the Salon D’Automne, Tel Aviv, Catalyst Arts, Belfast, Toyota Museum, Japan, and the BFI Southbank. She currently lives and works in London.
