Andy Webster works individually and collaboratively (most often with Jon Bird and Darren Ray) across sculpture, performance, moving image, sound, drawing and curatorial practice often in response to characteristics, approaches, attitudes and metaphors associated with a particular site, context, or discourse. He is interested in particular kinds of moments, in settings and instances often met with responses that are in some way involuntary, compulsive, unrestrained and spontaneous. Such moments might be found in instances shaped by ad-libbed replies, or generated in trains of thought fashioned through ad-hoc digressions and comic asides. These instants might be felt on encountering a musical refrain or on finding oneself unapologetically performing a seemingly random dance routine. Such moments might be a participatory response to the trance like movements of a collective event or the result of some banal individual act of bureaucratic procrastination.
